With the year 2021 upon us, there are a few updates already in the tech world in the first few days. A few days ago, Adobe ended support for the Flash Player, a browser plug-in that enabled PC players to play games online, and now, Whatsapp is ending support for specific smartphones and operating systems.

Which Operating Systems Will Get Affected?

According to an announcement made by WhatsApp on the FAQ section of their website, the smartphone messenger has announced the end of the compatibility of the app with old versions of operating systems in certain smartphones.

According to the official announcement on the FAQ, WhatsApp will only be compatible with phones running Android 4.0.3 or onwards or on iPhones running iOS 9 and onwards from 1st January 2021.

Almost a decade old, the iPhone 4 was described as the thinnest smartphone in the world while Steve Jobs was launching it. WhatsApp will not be compatible on the phone in 2021.

• Motorola Droid Razr

The phone was released in 2012 and had created a lot of buzz at that time. Unfortunately, the phone will no longer be able to support WhatsApp in 2021.

HTC Desire

HTC Desire was released in 2010 and was the first phone amongst the HTC Desire series that was highly successful at that time. The phone will no longer be compatible with WhatsApp.

• Samsung Galaxy S2

The Samsung Galaxy S2 was touted as one of the best smartphones at the time of its release in 2011. However, in 2021 it will be no longer supporting WhatsApp.

• LG Optimus Black

LG Electronics had released this model back in 2011 as a direct competition to the iPhone 4. This is one of the phones that will no longer support the facebook-owned WhatsApp.

The following phones are some of the smartphones that will no longer support WhatsApp from 2021. However, it is expected that the messaging app would be releasing a plethora of updates in the future for the phones it is compatible with.
