Authorities have apprehended an individual renowned for his expertise in altering the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers of stolen mobile phones, marking a victory for digital security in Pakistan’s bustling metropolis.
Caught Red-Handed In Karachi
On a typical Saturday, law enforcement apprehended Sohail, a person engaged in the illegal trade of altering IMEI numbers. His apprehension illuminated the obscure facets of Karachi’s illicit mobile phone sector.
Sohail’s method was straightforward but efficient. For changing the IMEI numbers of mobile phones, he charged merchants a modest cost of Rs 500. This approach made it more difficult to trace down and retrieve lost or stolen gadgets, in addition to making it easier for stolen goods to be sold.
The Confession And Aftermath
Sohail revealed an astonishing truth during questioning: up to five separate cell phones could have the same IMEI number implanted. This finding significantly affects mobile phone security and the ease with which stolen phones can reenter the market unnoticed.
