Pakistan’s dynamic wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Haris landed in Dhaka last week to partake in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for Chattogram Challengers, however, he returned home without playing.
Reportedly, Haris sought a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to participate in the BPL. Despite being advised by the PCB to proceed to Bangladesh, Haris, who had booked a flight for January 17, was informed that the NOC would be issued on January 18. Upon his arrival in Bangladesh, the PCB reportedly denied the NOC. Additionally, the PCB allegedly refused to cover the expenses for his return flight.

However, PCB, after recently granting NOCs to centrally contracted as well as non-contracted players to participate in the BPL and the International League T20 (ILT20), clarified their stance on Haris’s case as to why was he denied an NOC.
Why was Mohammad Haris denied NOC?
Haris, who had already represented B-Love Kandy and Surrey Jaguars in the Lanka Premier League and Global T20 Canada, respectively, during the July 2023 to July 2024 period, was denied an NOC because of PCB’s allowance for players to feature in two foreign franchise league tournaments within the specified season.
Expressing his disappointment, Haris thanked the Chattogram team management and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for the opportunity. He revealed that he had arrived early to prepare for the tournament but was later informed that the NOC wouldn’t be issued. Regretfully, he announced his unavailability for the BPL, expressing hope to join the team in the following year.
This whole situation raised questions marks on PCB’s handling of players and miscommunication between the two sides. However, Usman Iqbal Wahla, director – of international cricket at the PCB, has opened up about the issue of NOCs.
“While avoiding a comment on an individual case we didn’t tell any player or his agent to book travel without a formal approval,” he said on X (formerly Twitter).
Salam Saj, while avoiding a comment on an individual case we didn't tell any player or his agent to book travel without a formal approval. All our CC and non CC players have been given complete clarity and are in constant communication with us. https://t.co/FpT4VRyNpv
