The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9 is just around the corner and the anticipation is reaching fever pitch among cricket enthusiasts worldwide.

As teams gear up for the exhilarating showdown, fans are eager to witness history unfold and records tumble in what promises to be an electrifying edition of the tournament.

Talking about the records, there are some potential records which may not stand the test of time and get broken in PSL 9. Let’s find out!

Most PSL Titles

Once an underdog in the competition, Lahore Qalandars have turned things around and are entering PSL 9 with their sights set on clinching a historic third successive title. Their remarkable victories in the last two seasons and a formidable lineup have solidified their status as contenders this year too. They are tied with Islamabad United with two PSL titles. Both teams have the ability to become the first to win their third PSL title this year.

Most Matches Played

Wahab Riaz, former Peshawar Zalmi pacer and current Chief Selector of the Pakistan cricket team, is the most capped player in PSL history with 88 matches. He is closely followed by Karachi Kings’s Shoaib Maik (81) and Quetta Gladiators’ Sarfaraz Ahmed (80). Both players are hot on their heels, and poised to surpass Wahab Riaz’s tally in PSL 9.

Most Wickets

Wahab Riaz also boasts 113 wickets in 88 matches, making him the all-time top wicket-taker in PSL history. However, with his retirement, Hasan Ali has a chance to surpass him this year, as he has 94 wickets. Meanwhile, Shaheen Afridi (89) is also closing in on the record to become the highest-wicket taker in PSL.

Akmal is retired whereas Khan remained unpicked in the PSL Draft, which gives a good chance to the other three batters to equal or surpass Akmal’s feat in the upcoming season.

Most Sixes in an Innings

Ben Dunk’s explosive performances in PSL 2020 saw him smash a record-breaking number of sixes in a single innings – 12 against Karachi Kings and 10 against Quetta Gladiators.
