TV host and actress Nida Yasir recently opened up about her emotional struggle after the loss of her mother. In an interview, she recalled the moment her world shifted forever.
Nida shared that during her mother’s passing, she wasn’t in Pakistan. She was in the Maldives with her family when COVID restrictions were in full swing. Upon returning, the reality hit her hard. The absence felt louder than silence.
She revealed that for many days, she repeatedly listened to her mother’s voice messages. “I used to sit and hear her voice,” she said, her eyes brimming with tears. “Each time I listened, I couldn’t stop crying.”
How Grief Changed Her: “I Became Bitter…”
After her return, healing didn’t come easy. Nida admitted that her emotional state began affecting her relationships. “I became bitter towards everyone”, she confessed. “Towards my husband, my children, even my extended family.”
The pain was deep and raw. She questioned herself constantly. “What should I do? How do I heal? How do I end this pain?” Her mother’s voice messages became a double-edged sword comforting yet painful. “Listening to them broke me again and again,” she explained.
Eventually, she decided to stop. “I told myself to stop listening because I wasn’t moving forward,” she said. However, she never deleted the voice notes. “They’re still there. I just don’t have the courage to press play.”
Finding Strength in Stillness: A Message to Others in Grief
Despite the emotional toll, Nida Yasir emphasised a powerful realisation. “My sisters, my family, they still need me. I have to be strong for them,” she shared. With that mindset, she chose to pause the grief cycle by not reopening old wounds.
Her decision isn’t about forgetting, but about coping. “Her voice is a memory I’m not ready to face again. Not yet,” she admitted.
For many business professionals balancing work and family, grief often remains hidden behind routine and responsibility. Nida’s raw honesty brings attention to how personal pain can impact every area of life, including productivity and relationships.
As someone constantly in the public eye, her openness becomes even more impactful. It serves as a reminder that healing takes time and space and sometimes, silence.
