US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the ceasefire between Iran and Israel is “NOW IN EFFECT.” He wrote on his Truth Social platform, “THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT!” Trump said the truce would begin in phases starting around 0400 GMT Tuesday.
He explained that Iran would stop its operations first, and Israel would follow 12 hours later. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed this and said Iran continued military actions until exactly 4 am. “The military operations of our powerful Armed Forces to punish Israel for its aggression continued until the very last minute, at 4 am,” Araghchi posted on X.
He thanked Iran’s forces for their efforts. “Together with all Iranians, I thank our brave Armed Forces who remain ready to defend our dear country until their last drop of blood, and who responded to any attack by the enemy until the very last minute,” he added.
On Monday, Trump announced a complete ceasefire and said it could end the 12-day war. He also praised both countries. “On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both countries, Israel and Iran, on having the stamina, courage, and intelligence to end, what should be called, ‘THE 12 DAY WAR’,” he wrote.
However, Israel has not confirmed the ceasefire. The Israeli military said Iran launched two volleys of missiles early Tuesday. Witnesses in Tel Aviv and Beersheba heard explosions shortly after the ceasefire deadline.
Israeli media reported that a missile hit a building in Beersheba, killing three people. This attack happened even after the ceasefire time had passed. The US and Israel had attacked Iran’s nuclear sites over the weekend.
Washington claimed Tehran was close to building a nuclear weapon. Iran and Israel exchanged missiles just before the truce deadline. The last strikes came moments before the agreed halt at 4 am, but Israel hasn’t said if it stopped firing.
