Talha Anjum was caught in the crossfire of a recent controversy, yet again, that has evoked mixed responses on social media, with many coming out in support of him and others condemning his actions.
Last week, a fan reportedly threw a bottle at the Young Stunnersโ star during a concert, prompting a stark response from the rapper. Anjum pointed out the offender, brought him on stage, and had security drag him out of sight. This, however, wasn’t the first time such a thing had happened to the singer.ย
In the past, the Young Stunner has been hit by bottles at his concerts and ended up leaving the stage or responding aggressively. Despite one’s like or dislike for an artist, throwing objects at them mid-concert is simply immoral and unjustified.
This needs to stop!
A Recurring Patternย
While physical violence is the most extreme form, celebrities in Pakistan are constantly subjected to judgment, ridicule, and harassment over the most trivial matters. Their smallest mistakes are often blown out of proportion and treated as grave offences.
Take actress Meera, for instance; she has been relentlessly mocked for years over her English mispronunciations. Similarly, star cricketer Muhammad Rizwan has been targeted by meme culture on social media for comparable reasons.
Celebrities who publicly express political views, such as Shahid Afridi, often face backlash from supporters of opposing parties. As public figures, their private lives are frequently exposed, misinterpreted, and harshly judged.
But perhaps the most cruel form of ridicule is when it happens in front of a live audience, while theyโre performing. Talha Anjum has been subjected to this kind of public humiliation time and again.

The Need to Respect Artists
Keyboard warriors are too keen to attack celebrities every chance they get. Some overzealous people take matters to the extreme by physically targeting artists or taking unwarranted personal shots.
Art and entertainment are essential components of a cultural system. First and foremost, it is important to distinguish the art from the artist and acknowledge the fact that all celebrities are humans, which entitles them to a set of basic rights that are accorded to every citizen.
Their right to privacy, their political opinions, and their personal lives should be respected. Most of all, when they are out in public, performing, one needs to be courteous or leave if they feel the need to throw objects at them.
A less judgmental public environment where celebrities are allowed to be themselves would cultivate growth in the entertainment industry. Unconventional artists who don’t fit traditional stereotypes will gain motivation to perform on a larger scale.
As a result, the industry will flourish, and Pakistan will become a more inclusive country for the cultivation of art.
