Islamabad United’s explosive wicketkeeper-batter, Azam Khan has expressed frustration over the lack of chances in the national team while claiming himself as the best T20 finisher in Pakistan currently.

Azam Khan emphasized on his unwavering dedication to the team’s cause during a candid conversation with a sports news outlet. However, he stated that he does not like to be a ‘scapegoat.’

“If it’s a team game and only an individual is made a scapegoat, it makes me a bit angry,” Azam Khan said.

The dynamic batter also pointed out that his exceptional batting average and strike rate at the crucial No. 5 and No. 6 positions make him the best finisher across the country.

“There’s no one close to my batting numbers at the No.5 and No.6 positions in Pakistan. In the last four years, only twelve batters have scored runs at an average of more than 25 and a strike rate over 145 in T20 cricket,” Azam highlighted.

Despite the frustration and setbacks, Azam remains steadfast in his commitment to represent Pakistan at the highest level.

But also expressed his readiness to explore lucrative league opportunities if denied consistent chances in the national squad.

“If I stand among these T20 greats in terms of average and strike rate and I am not given the confidence, cricket has become so fast-paced that it won’t be a financial problem for me.

“Because nowadays you get so many league cricket tournaments. I know I have this opportunity to make money but I want to play for Pakistan.”

It is noteworthy that since his T20I debut in 2021, Azam Khan has only featured in eight matches for Pakistan. He managed to score a meagre 29 runs at an average of 4.83.
