In a landmark moment for Pakistan-China cultural cooperation,
the grand premiere of The Legend of Maula Jatt was held on May 19, 2026, at a multiplex
in Beijing. The event was presided over by His Excellency Khalil Hashmi, Ambassador of
Pakistan to China.
The Huaxia multiplex was beautifully transformed with immersive posters and artwork
from the film, creating a vibrant cinematic atmosphere for distinguished guests.
The premiere was attended by renowned Director Mr. Bilal Lashari and International
Distributor Mr. Nadeem Mandviwalla of Mandviwalla Entertainment, the Head of
International Distribution, Xu Xiaochao, Deputy Director of the Import Department of the
State Film Administration, Yang Jian, Manager of the Film Import and Export Branch of
China Film Group, Wang Jia, Manager of the Beijing Imported Film Distribution Branch of
China Film Industry Group Co., Ltd., Huaxia Film Development Li Linlin, Manager of
Investment and Operation Department of Huaxia Cinema Line, Zhou Guanwen, Deputy
Manager of Distribution Department of Huaxia Film Distribution Co., Ltd., and Hao,
Yuejiao, representative of Mandviwalla Entertainment Company of Pakistan in China,
attended this event.
In a historic first for Pakistani cinema, the film has received permission to be released in
China on a quota revenue basis. The Legend of Maula Jatt is expected to launch across
1,000 screens nationwide on May 21, 2026. The film is being distributed in China by
Huaxia Distribution Company & China Film Distribution Company With the permission of
China Film Group.

years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China. This film offers Chinese
audiences a unique opportunity to experience the richness and vibrancy of Pakistani
cinema, while reflecting the spirit of mutually beneficial cooperation between the film

This premiere is not only a proud recognition of Pakistani
creative talent but also an important step forward in deepening cultural and people-to
people exchanges between Pakistan and China.”

“Congratulations to filmmaker Mr. Bilal Lashari and distributor Mr. Nadeem Mandviwalla
on this landmark achievement. I express my deep appreciation to the China Film
Administration, China Film Import and Export Corporation, and China Film Group for
their valuable support in bringing this film to Chinese audiences. This release follows the
Film Co-Production Agreement signed in June 2024 between Pakistan’s Ministry of
Information and Broadcasting and the China Film Administration, which promotes
exchanges between filmmakers and encourages joint productions. Pakistan’s media and
entertainment sector is expanding rapidly, with over 200 million telecom subscribers,
more than 200 television channels, and state-of-the-art cinema infrastructure. Pakistani
filmmakers have recently received accolades at the SCO Film Festival in China. I am
confident that more Pakistani films will reach Chinese audiences, while more Chinese
films will find a home in Pakistan, further strengthening our All-Weather Strategic
Cooperative Partnership.”
