On Saturday, during its Tudum Global Fan Event in Brazil, Netflix unveiled brand-new, exclusive information regarding the second season of the explosively popular South Korean thriller series “Squid Game.”

The second season of ‘Squid Game’ has a new teaser that features both returning and new cast members, including Lee Jung-Jae, who plays the series’ star, and Gong Yoo. The masked character “Front Man,” played by Lee Byung-hun, and Wi Ha-jun, who plays the officer looking for his missing brother who gets into trouble behind the scenes of the deadly game, will both return for Season 2.

Meanwhile, the new cast members include Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong Geun who are joining the season 1 members.

Season 2 Release Date 

The second season is scheduled to debut on the streaming service in 2024. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk stated this information at a Netflix press conference in September 2022.

“We will start shooting Season 2 next year [in 2023] and it’ll be released the following year,” said the director and writer for the highly acclaimed K-drama.

The Korean drama’s second season will have high expectations. With 1.65 billion hours of viewing in just 28 days, Squid Game became a Netflix blockbuster. The cast and crew received historic Emmy victories in the wake of the record-breaking viewership. Six awards were given to the series, which received 14 nominations. These included outstanding directing, production design, special visual effects, stunt performance. As well as, actress in a guest role for Lee You-mi, and lead actor for Lee Jung-Jae. The former made history by becoming the first Asian actor to ever win in the category.
