The Sindh government has announced that all public and private schools and colleges will close on 4th February 2026 for Shab e Barat holiday. The occasion falls on the night of 3rd February.

The Sindh Education and Literacy Department confirmed the decision after a steering committee meeting. It stated, “All schools and colleges under the department’s control will remain closed on Wednesday, 4th February 2026.”

Shab e Barat occurs on the 15th of Sha’ban, the eighth month of the Islamic calendar. Muslims believe that the night determines the destinies of the coming year. Many also fast the next day to seek spiritual purification and blessings.

People spend the night in prayer, reflection, and seeking forgiveness. They visit graveyards to pray for deceased loved ones. Mosques and shrines remain brightly lit to mark the occasion.

Special gatherings in mosques feature Quran recitations, sermons, and prayers. Scholars explain the night’s religious significance and encourage believers to seek mercy and forgiveness.

Families and communities observe the night with devotion. Students enjoy the Shab e Barat holiday, which also serves as a time for spiritual reflection and family observances.
