Sindh Industries To Encounter 48-Hour Pause In Gas Supply

Industries and power plants across Sindh are set to encounter a 48-hour suspension in their gas supply, starting from Saturday. The reason behind this interruption, according to the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), is the low gas pressure within the system. The reduced pressure in the gas line has led to a decline in the gas supply.

A notification from the company elaborated on the situation: “Due to the limited gas supply within the SSGCL system, the availability of gas has dwindled, resulting in a depletion of line pack and decreased pressure in the system.”

The decision to temporarily halt gas supply aligns with the guidelines laid out in Clause 14 of the Gas Sales Agreement (GSA) for Industrial Customers, which has been approved by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA). The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet has also granted permission for the suspension as part of a strategy to manage gas load based on an approved sectoral priority order. Consequently, all industries, including power generation units, will be temporarily closed as per the schedule outlined below:

The suspension will commence from Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 8 a.m. and will continue until Monday, August 28, 2023, at 8 a.m.

The gas supply during this period will be aligned with the approved priority order. The SSGC issued a stern warning that strict measures will be taken against any instances of violation during this gas supply interruption.

“The company will take strict action against any violation observed during the Gas Holiday Period, and gas supplies will be disconnected for at least 7 days,” the statement emphasized.

This suspension aims to efficiently manage gas distribution while adhering to the established priority structure.
