Shahid Afridi has expressed his disappointment over the decision of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to replace Shaheen Afridi with Babar Azam as the T20I captain.

The cricketing world was taken aback when Babar Azam was appointed to lead the team in white-ball cricket, encompassing both ODIs and T20Is, as confirmed by the PCB on social media platforms.

The decision made public on Sunday, stirred reactions across the cricketing community, including former all-rounder Shahid Afridi.

Expressing his astonishment, Afridi, whose son-in-law happens to be Shaheen Afridi, questioned the decision made by the experienced members of the selection committee.

In a statement on social media, Shahid Afridi voiced his surprise, stating, “I am surprised by the decision by very experienced cricketers in the selection committee.

Furthermore, Afridi suggested that if a leadership change was indeed necessary, Mohammad Rizwan would have been a more suitable choice in his opinion.

He went on to share his thoughts, saying, “I still believe that if change was necessary than Rizwan was the best choice! But since now the decision has been made I offer my full support and best wishes to team Pakistan and Babar Azam.”

With Babar Azam’s reinstatement as captain, his first challenge will be to lead Pakistan in the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand at home, scheduled to commence on April 18.

The decision to appoint Babar Azam as the T20I captain has sparked discussions, as the Pakistan cricket team prepares for its upcoming challenges.
