The famous rickshaw manufacturer Sazgar Engineering Works acquired ‘Category A- Greenfield Investment Status’ under the government’s new automotive policy.

According to a letter received by Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) all vehicles made by Sazgar will be sold under the name ‘BAIC’.

Company secretary Arshad Mahmood in an official notification last year to PSX announced the completion of Sazgar automobile assembly plant.

He wrote:

The project will be completed by June 30, 2019 while the plant would have a production capacity of 24,000 units per annum

Now, photos of the highly anticipated Sazgar BAIC D20 Hatchback have surfaced. A right-hand-drive BAIC D20 hatchback was spotted by DemLahoriGuys at Emporium Mall.

According to the license registration, the vehicle was registered in September 2019 by Sazgar Engineering Works Limited.

The BAIC D20 has been based on 2004 Smart Forfour and is heavily inspired by the first generation Mercedes-Benz B-Class.

BAIC has acquired a 5% stake in Daimler AG. Daimler also holds a 9.55% stake in BAIC as well as a 3.01% interest in BAIC BluePark New Energy Technology company.

According to the  MTMIS website, the price of the BAIC D20 hatchback is PKR 18lac, however, we still have to see what official price Sazgar will quote in the markets.
