Samsung Launches Slimmest Phone, Rivals Apple

Samsung has launched its thinnest flagship smartphone to date, the Galaxy S25 Edge, breaking new ground in smartphone design. The extremely thin phone is set to directly challenge Apple’s expected launch of a thinner iPhone later this year. With the battle between Samsung and Apple still driving the smartphone market, the S25 Edge hopes to outdo Apple with its slim design, high performance, and innovative technology.

A Long-Running Feud

The Samsung-Apple feud has been one of the most characteristic elements of the smartphone market for well over a decade. Both parties have made it their mission to innovate and experiment, each new release trying to trump the other.

From Samsung’s Galaxy S lineup to Apple’s iPhone, both companies have paved the way for intense competition. Apple’s own design philosophy has consistently favoured slimness and top-end materials, whereas Samsung has been a master of big and dynamic screens along with creative innovations. Samsung has again aimed to surpass Apple through the Galaxy S25 Edge as it released its thinnest flagship ever in its line history, something with which Apple also seems to be concerned amid buzz about an incredibly thin iPhone redesign.

Design and Build

The Galaxy S25 Edge is simply 5.8mm in thickness, but it remains the thinnest in the series of Galaxy S models in the Samsung Galaxy series lineup. Regardless of the low profile, however, the smartphone still has the premium look, weighing a light 163 grams. The handset has a screen size of 6.7 inches, sporting an LTPO AMOLED 2X display at 1440 x 3120 pixels for impressive colours and smoothened visuals. Its screen is tempered with Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, making the phone even tougher while being lighter.

Performance and AI Integration

Gigging on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform, the Galaxy S25 Edge comes with the best performance. The device comes with 12GB of RAM and a 256GB and 512GB storage option, depending on different user needs. Samsung has integrated high-end AI features, such as real-time multimodal camera and voice interaction, where users can talk to the device directly.

Camera System

Galaxy S25 Edge has a dual-lens camera system on the rear that includes a 200MP wide-angle camera and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. This arrangement allows users to take high-definition images with great detail and clarity. The front camera is a 10MP sensor, ideal for quality selfies and video calls.

Battery and Charging

Despite the thin build, the Galaxy S25 Edge contains a 3900mAh battery, offering sufficient power for day-to-day activities. The smartphone features wired charging of 25W, enabling fast recharges to maintain the users’ constant connectivity throughout the day.

Market Positioning and Availability

Priced at $1,099, the Galaxy S25 Edge will be marketed as a high-end phone for customers looking for a balance of performance and compact size. The phone will be on sale in Titanium Silver, Titanium Icy Blue, and Titanium Jet Black hues. It will debut in South Korea on May 23 and in the United States on May 30, with distribution planned in about 30 countries, including markets in Asia and Europe.

It’s clear that with its slim build and high-end features, Samsung again demonstrates that it is poised to take the industry by storm and break new ground in smartphone technology. Let’s see what Apple has in store for us.
