In a country where true recognition sometimes takes longer than it should, it’s heartening to see someone like Sadia Rashid finally receive the national spotlight she deserves. Sadia was recently honoured with the Hilal-e-Imtiaz (one of Pakistan’s highest civilian awards), announced on August 14, 2024, in recognition of her exceptional contributions to the field of education.

Early Life: Birth and Upbringing

Sadia was born in 1946 in Sitaram Bazar, Old Delhi to Hakim Said (Shaheed) and Naimat Begum. She later migrated to Karachi with her family in 1948. In Karachi, she pursued her education at St. Joseph’s Convent School and College and later earned a Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Karachi.

Transforming Her Father’s Dream Into Reality

As the Chancellor of Hamdard University and President of Hamdard Pakistan, Sadia took charge of continuing the legacy of her late father, Hakim Muhammad Said. After his tragic assassination in 1998, many wondered what would become of the institutions he so passionately built. But Sadia took on the initiative her father started with immense grace and determination. The daughter proved that even without a son, her father’s legacy will be carried.

Under Sadia Rashid’s leadership, not only did Hamdard survive—it evolved, expanded, and solidified its reputation as a pillar of learning and service.
