Saboor Aly has come under the blazing, roving eyes of the critics and it’s over her best friend’s wedding!

Saboor Aly’s Bestfriend Gets Married

Umair Qazi is Aly’s best friend who tied the knot over the past weekend. The loads of pictures we see of Sajal Aly decked up in lehenga choli in the past few days have been courtesy of that wedding!

Naturally, one is all smiles, dressed and joyous at a best friend’s wedding and so was Saboor Aly! However, netizens neither approved of her clothing nor of her behaviour with her groom best friend.

What’s The Point of Critique?

The criticism being levied towards the actor is due to her hugging her best friend. The same one who happens to be the groom! People are raising questions and expressing their discontent with her “hugging” him too closely.

Surely you know hugging from 6 feet apart is the preferred style of hugging by netizens when it comes to opposite genders.

Are These Criticisms Well-Founded?

Truth be told, this is 2021 and we must normalise platonic friendships between a man and a woman! In the day and age of co-education, there is nothing wrong with opposite genders forming a platonic friendship with each other.

Don’t people hug their friends? Of course, they do and that’s exactly what Saboor Aly is doing! Plus, even the concerns on the inappropriateness of the act are not well-founded considering the person who is getting married is also okay with it.

The Other Side of the Argument

The whole domino-effect argument which is that “celebrities act as role models so what standard is she setting” has its own validity. Saboor Aly’s choice of dressing and her conduct with her male friends also comes to form a place of privilege.

Many young women and girls can face serious consequences ranging from corporal punishment to honour killings if they behave the same way. Our society is constructed in two extreme polar ends both of which can neither relate nor empathise with the other.

But, at the end of the day, there are better ways to say the same thing. These comments are highly personal and vile which is unfair to people celebrating in a way they always have.
