Ramiz Raja has weighed in on the career trajectory of emerging fast bowler Hunain Shah, urging him to explore opportunities with other franchises in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) apart from Islamabad United.

During the PSL 9 match between Islamabad United and Karachi Kings, Raja expressed his belief that Hunain, who is the younger brother of renowned pacer Naseem Shah, could benefit from stepping out of his brother’s shadow.

Raja emphasized the potential drawbacks of playing alongside Naseem in the same team, citing the possibility of feeling overshadowed and constrained in one’s development.

“It would be good for Hunain to play for another franchise as what happens is there is so much of spoonfeeding and because he [Naseem] is such a pillar to this family, a superstar to Pakistan cricket. You get suppressed in your approach towards the game,” Raja remarked.

He further elaborated, “You are frightened that you wouldn’t be as good as your brother, it is better for him to feel absolutely relaxed and serve better without Naseem’s shadow.”

Hunain Shah made his PSL debut this season with Islamabad United alongside his other brother Ubaid Shah.

Notably, it is the first time for a franchise team to feature three brothers in the squad.

Meanwhile, Hunain Shah has showcased his bowling prowess with six wickets in six matches, maintaining an economy rate of 8.63.
