The Punjab government has extended summer vacations for all schools in the province until August 31. Schools will now reopen on September 1. The School Education Department issued a notification about the change.
It said, “The Competent Authority has been pleased to extend the vacations till 31.08.2025. All schools in the province of Punjab will re-open on 1.09.2025.” The order applies to both public and private institutions. Authorities have told all district education chiefs to ensure strict compliance.

Officials did not give a reason in the notice. However, the likely cause is severe weather. Persistent monsoon rains and flooding have hit Punjab since late June. Large parts of the province remain affected, with normal life disrupted.
The move has sparked strong criticism from private school associations. The All Pakistan Private Schools Associations (APPSA) has rejected the extension. The group warned it would disrupt the academic calendar.
“If the holidays are extended further, the teaching system will be badly affected,” the APPSA president said. He added that the extension was unjustified in the current conditions. The association believes the weather has improved. They also point out that the political environment is stable.
APPSA members argue there are no grounds to keep schools closed. They have urged the Punjab government to reconsider. Their aim is to resume academic activities as planned.
They stress that more delays will harm education. Students and teachers need to return to their classrooms quickly. The education sector, they say, cannot afford more interruptions.
