Lead by the Department of Information Technology (IT) Sindh. The ‘Chip Wafer Foundry’ project promises to revolutionize Pakistan’s role in the global digital market.

Leveraging Abundant Resources for Global Demands

The initiation of preliminary paperwork and subsequent submission to relevant ministries highlights the government’s commitment to fostering innovation and capitalizing on abundant resources. With experts identifying the potential of sand as a raw material for chip manufacturing. Pakistan stands in line to meet the rising demands of the digital era.

Acknowledging the pivotal role of coal, sand, water, and electricity in chip production.  The Thar Desert emerges as an ideal location for the envisioned Chip Wafer Foundry. Despite the absence of indigenous chipmaking technology, experts remain positive about Pakistan’s capacity to emerge as a key player in chip wafer production.

Sustainable Power Generation

Financed through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the estimated $450 million project represents a significant investment in Pakistan’s technological infrastructure. The district of Islam Kot in Tharparkar has been marked as the epicenter of this groundbreaking initiative, with 150 acres of land designated for the project’s development. Additionally, the project is set to meet its electricity demand of 250 megawatts from Thar itself, further highlighting its sustainability and self-sufficiency.
