Pakistan Railways will launch a state-of-the-art business train this week to offer passengers a modern and comfortable travel experience on the Lahore-Karachi route. Moreover, officials confirmed that this service marks a major step toward improving long-distance train travel in Pakistan.
The new business train includes 28 digitally equipped coaches. In addition, passengers will enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the journey. Furthermore, the train also offers an international-standard dining car to provide better meal options.
Pakistan Railways stated that this train meets international comfort and service standards. As a result, passengers will see a major upgrade from traditional services.
The Lahore-Karachi route connects two of Pakistan’s largest cities and attracts heavy passenger demand every day. Therefore, the new business train aims to serve this busy corridor with advanced features and a better travel experience.
Earlier, Pakistan Railways started outsourcing 11 more trains under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. According to officials, they want to improve services by involving private companies. Hence, they expect more efficiency and improved operations.
Authorities believe outsourcing will raise service quality for passengers. Additionally, they expect private firms to introduce modern amenities and improve operational standards across the system.
However, critics expressed concerns about outsourcing’s impact on low-income travelers. In fact, they warned that the move could make train fares higher and reduce affordability for underprivileged communities.
Civil society groups also raised serious questions about fare hikes. They said millions of people rely on trains as their main source of affordable travel, and any increase will affect them directly.
Rail remains the most popular and economical way for poor and middle-class passengers in Pakistan to move between cities. For example, Pakistan Railways estimates that nearly 100,000 people use trains daily. Most of them travel on major routes connecting Karachi with other parts of Punjab.
Finally, with this launch, Pakistan Railways hopes to attract more passengers by offering comfort, digital features, and better services.
Ultimately, officials claim this move will modernise the image of Pakistan Railways and bring more convenience to travelers.
