Oscar Piastri continued to dominate in the 2025 Formula 1 season with a dominant win at the Miami Grand Prix — his fourth victory in six events. The McLaren driver produced a pin-sharp, clever drive, making telling passes and fending off teammate Lando Norris despite increasing pressure in the final laps.
Beginning fourth, Piastri climbed through the grid with an aggressive manoeuvre on Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli before making a thought-out pass on Max Verstappen, the early leader. The Australian deployed DRS perfectly, forcing Verstappen to make a mistake at Turn One on lap 14 before scooping through to the lead — a lead never to be headed.
Norris Fights Back, Verstappen Slips Down
Norris started untidily, slipping to sixth after a wild moment fighting Verstappen. But he fought back positions with aggressive overpasses, ultimately sending Verstappen off with a clean pass at Turn 11. Verstappen, struggling to keep up with the McLarens, faded rapidly, losing nine seconds in nine laps before pitting.
Conditions improved for the Red Bull champion when a virtual safety car enabled Mercedes’ George Russell to pit and overtake into a podium spot. Verstappen was unable to regain, falling behind Russell to cross a frustrating fourth.

Ferrari Team Orders Cause Internal Drama
At Ferrari, radio drama unfolded as Lewis Hamilton, on fresher tyres, was initially denied permission to pass teammate Charles Leclerc. Hamilton’s sarcasm — “Have a tea break while you’re at it” — echoed through the team radio. He was eventually allowed through but ordered to give the position back later. The awkward shuffle saw Ferrari finish seventh and eighth, behind Mercedes rookie Antonelli.
McLaren’s Return to Glory
The victory is McLaren’s first hat-trick of race victories since the late 1990s heyday of Mika Häkkinen. Piastri is now 16 points clear of Norris at the top of the championship, with Verstappen the same distance adrift in third.
As the paddock travels to Imola for the European stint, one thing is certain: McLaren is no longer pursuing the front — they are the front.
