Mario Kart lovers, rise! Nintendo has finally dropped the first look trailer for the much-awaited Nintendo Switch 2, and it is a blend of exciting upgrades coupled with some familiar features. The new console will be available later this year, retaining the hybrid handheld and docked play functionality while introducing design, usability and compatibility enhancements.

Larger Display, Redesigned Joy-Cons

The Nintendo Switch 2 has a larger display that provides a better gaming experience for gamers. Along with the new display comes new Joy-Cons in a sleeker design, mostly black with red and blue highlights. Unlike the sliding mechanism of the original, the Joy-Cons now snap into place, offering more durability and ease of use.

Another notable design change is the updated kickstand that now takes a “U” shape, for better stability. The dock’s core design is retained but it is now designed with smoother rounded edges to be more modern.

Backward Compatibility Confirmed

In a move that will delight fans, Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 will support backward compatibility, meaning it will be able to play most physical and digital games from the original Switch. However, the company cautioned that some older titles may face compatibility issues with the new hardware.
