The T20 World Cup 2024 is heating up, and with the high-stakes India vs Pakistan match just around the corner, security is taking centre stage.

The Eisenhower Park stadium, also called Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, in New York, set to host this much-anticipated showdown on June 9, is ramping up its security measures following reports of threats.

Assurance from New York Governor

Governor Kathy Hochul’s office released a statement assuring everyone that they are keeping a close eye on the situation. According to their intelligence, there is “no credible public safety threat at this time.” Nevertheless, they are not taking any chances.

Located about 25 miles east of Manhattan, Eisenhower Park will be the venue for eight exciting matches between June 3 and June 12. Among these is the blockbuster India-Pakistan encounter, which has fans buzzing with anticipation.

Governor Hochul emphasized that her administration has been working with law enforcement for months to ensure the games run smoothly.

“I have directed the New York State Police to implement elevated security measures,” she said. “This includes an increased law enforcement presence, advanced surveillance, and thorough screening processes. Public safety is my top priority, and we are committed to ensuring the Cricket World Cup is a safe and enjoyable experience.”

ICC’s Robust Security Plans

Although authorities have not found any evidence supporting the reported threat, the ICC has reassured fans that security will be “robust” throughout the tournament.

“The safety and security of everyone at the event is our number one priority. We have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place,” an ICC spokesperson said.
