Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister of Punjab, formally opened the Nawaz Sharif Flyover on Thursday, the largest project in Sargodha. Officials claim that the flyover, which stretches 1.3 km, was finished in only eight months, which is a record time. Thousands of daily commuters are expected to see traffic reduction and connectivity enhancement.
CM Maryam Nawaz toured the newly built Nawaz Sharif Flyover during the ceremony and praised the quality of its construction. Provincial Minister Sohaib Ahmad Bharth briefed her in detail about how the project will support regional transit. The Rs2.2 billion flyover aims to ease travel for people coming from Bhakkar, Khushab, and Mianwali. Officials expect more than 30,000 vehicles to use the route daily.
In addition to the main structure, the project includes service roads and a sewer channel box. These additions are designed to improve traffic flow and support more efficient city planning. Officials believe this initiative will not only improve connectivity but also encourage economic activity in Sargodha and nearby areas.
Earlier, CM Maryam Nawaz led a six-hour meeting to review the Punjab development plan. For the first time, a Chief Minister formally approved the annual development plan covering 12 districts. During the meeting, she focused on multiple key areas such as anti-encroachment operations, urban beautification, and infrastructure upgrades across the province.
Commissioners and deputy commissioners from all districts attended the session to give complete updates on ongoing projects. The Punjab development plan covers essential initiatives, including the removal of encroachments, infrastructure development, public transport and market upgrades, restoration of heritage sites, and city-specific projects.
CM Maryam Nawaz clearly stated that her top priorities include sustainable development and strict action against encroachments.
