Libya Boat Tragedy Victims Bodies Arrive In Lahore

The bodies of two more Pakistanis who died after a migrant boat capsised off Libya’s eastern coast between April 12 and 13 reached Lahore Airport on Sunday. This incident is another example of many similar tragedies in recent years. Hundreds of Pakistanis have died while trying to reach Europe by sea through Africa, especially across the Mediterranean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean.

The two victims were Sufyan and Nadeem Ahmed, both from Gujranwala. State Minister for Public Affairs Rana Mubashir Hussain and Punjab Assembly Member Imran Javed received the bodies at the airport. The authorities later handed over the remains to their families. Special prayers were also offered for both of them.

Minister Rana Mubashir Hussain shared his feelings at the airport. He said, “We are deeply saddened by this loss and share the grief of the families.” He offered condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the tragedy.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Gujranwala Zone has started at least three different investigations into the incident. The agency is trying to find the people responsible for sending these men illegally through dangerous sea routes.

Last year, after a similar boat accident near Greece in November, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took notice of the deaths of illegal Pakistani migrants. After that, the FIA began a large crackdown against human smugglers and traffickers. The agency has been working to stop such illegal practices and punish those involved in sending people abroad through unsafe means.
