Karachi Set to Face Intense Heatwave for the Next Five Days

Karachi will be affected by a heatwave in the next five days from Thursday, as reported by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Meteorologists have signalled that humidity will be 70% to 80%. This is very high moisture in the atmosphere, and this will also make the weather hotter than the true temperature. Due to this, the temperature will be 4 to 6 degrees higher than the true reading.

PMD also adds that day temperatures will remain 35°C. But with humidity, the ‘feels-like’ temperature will be as high as 40°C in Karachi. For youngsters, the elderly, and workers who operate outside, this heat presents dangers.

Authorities advise against taking a risk given the expected heat and humidity. People should hydrate much, remain inside when it’s hottest, and avoid the outdoors if at all, they advise. This could help to stop heat sickness.

The report advises staying cool by positioning oneself in front of a fan or an air conditioner as well. Dressing in loose, light clothing and relaxing by sprinkling water, spritsing with a wet sponge, or taking a cold shower is wonderful.

If you are doing outdoor work or a hard job, drink water occasionally, even if you are not thirsty, to help keep yourself hydrated.
