Iran’s top military commander, Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, called Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir on Sunday. According to Iran’s Press TV, the Iranian commander thanked Pakistan for supporting Iran during its recent 12-day war with Israel.
Gen Mousavi praised Pakistan for its “courageous stance” and thanked the people of Pakistan for their “bold positions” in condemning what he called Israel’s unprovoked attacks.
Gen Mousavi said that Pakistan stood by Iran when Israel started attacks on June 13. He said these strikes killed senior Iranian military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians, including women and children.
He added, “The US administration under President Donald Trump spared no effort in assisting the Zionist regime” and accused the US of hitting Iran’s civilian nuclear sites at Isfahan, Natanz, and Fordow, facilities monitored by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Mousavi also said that “alongside the US, several Western countries also provided verbal and practical support to the enemy.” Despite the early loss of top commanders, Iran claimed it prevented its enemies from achieving their goals. According to Iranian officials, Israel stopped its strikes on June 23 under pressure and requested a ceasefire.
During the call, COAS Munir told the Iranian commander that Pakistan value its deep ties with Iran. He stressed the need for regional peace and said both countries should stay in contact to deal with outside threats. The two leaders agreed to keep communication channels open to support peace in the area.
Iran’s statement comes after the 12-day conflict that started when Israel launched targeted attacks on June 13. These attacks killed the head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps and damaged key nuclear sites. Iran then hit Israeli targets in return.
On June 22, the US joined the fight and attacked Iran’s nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan. In response, Iran launched strikes on US bases in Iraq and Qatar. The conflict ended on June 24 after heavy losses and global pressure forced all sides to agree to a ceasefire.
