Instagram and WhatsApp Restored After Global Outage

Instagram and WhatsApp are back online after a global outage disrupted several Meta-owned apps on Wednesday evening. Users worldwide, including in the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, South America and the US reported issues with feeds and app accessibility. According to Downdetector, over 22,000 Facebook reports and 18,000 WhatsApp reports were logged.

Meta addressed the issue on X: “Thanks for bearing with us! We’re 99% of the way there – just doing some last checks. We apologize to those who’ve been affected by the outage.” WhatsApp reassured users with, “And we’re back, happy chatting!” while Instagram said, “Sorry for the wait, and thanks for bearing with us.”

The outage, which began around 18:00 GMT, followed Meta’s largest disruption since 2021, where services were down for nearly six hours.
