Warner Bros.’ supernatural horror-thriller Final Destination: Bloodlines dominated the box office this weekend, earning a massive $51 million in its domestic debut. Released on May 16, Bloodlines marks the sixth installment in the popular horror series.
It scored a franchise-best U.S. opening and pushed its global earnings to $102 million, according to industry analysts. For comparison, Final Destination 5 opened to $18 million in 2011, not adjusted for inflation, making the new film’s performance a significant milestone.
Critics and Fans Applaud the Revival
Directed by Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky, the film earned praise from both critics and fans. The story follows Kaitlyn Santa Juana’s character, a young woman who learns her grandmother once cheated death and saved many lives.
But her discovery brings terrifying consequences, as death begins to reclaim its missed victims. The film stars Kaitlyn Santa Juana alongside Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, Anna Lore, Tony Todd, Gabrielle Rose, Brec Bassinger and Max Lloyd-Jones.
Final Destination: Bloodlines continues a hot streak for Warner Bros., following the success of Ryan Coogler’s Sinners. That film added $15.4 million over the weekend, bringing its North American total to $240 million and pushing its global gross to $316.8 million.
