Eid-al-Adha will likely be celebrated across Pakistan on June 7, 2025, according to the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco). The commission announced the expected date for the crescent moon sighting for Zilhaj 1446 AH. They based this prediction on scientific analysis, astronomical data, and modern observation methods.
Suparco said the new moon for Zilhaj will appear on May 27, 2025, at 8:02 pm Pakistan Standard Time. On May 27, which is 29 Ziqaโad, the moonโs age at sunset in Pakistan will be about 11 hours and 34 minutes.
They added, “Even under the most ideal weather circumstances, the chance of the moon being seen over the country is very low as there would only be a 37-minute interval between sunset and moonset.” Because of this, Suparco expects Zilhaj to start on May 29, 2025.
Eid-al-Adha, which falls on the 10th day of Zilhaj, will be observed on June 7, 2025. However, Suparco stressed that the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has the final authority on moon sighting. They said, โThe Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirms finally based on eyewitness testimony and weather circumstances.โ
Eid-al-Adha is a major Islamic festival that marks the end of the Haj pilgrimage. Muslims worldwide celebrate it to honor Prophet Ibrahimโs (AS) willingness to sacrifice his son as commanded by Allah.
This announcement helps people plan for the holiday, but they will wait for the official moon-sighting committee’s final confirmation.
