Karachi has been facing issues with its public transportation system for a long time now. But the absence of drivers for the recently launched People’s Bus Service is now causing problems for commuters on multiple routes. While the bus service was initially introduced to provide convenience to citizens, but the everyday absence of drivers has become annoying and frustrating.

Sources claim that the Sindh government has also decreased the number of buses from 30 to 20, further adding to the commuters’ problems. The public bus service users have also complained about delays on various routes of the People’s Bus Service.

Affected Routes

One of the routes affected by the reduced number of buses is the R-1 route from Malir Model Colony to DHA Karachi, where the reduction of ten buses has led to longer wait times for commuters. The commuters have been left stranded on multiple occasions due to the unavailability of drivers.

In response to the situation, the charge of the Bus Service for the R1 route stated that the time from 7 am to 10 am is being recorded as peak time, and efforts are being made to ensure that drivers arrive at their designated times.

This situation highlights the need for better management of the public transportation system in Karachi to avoid inconveniencing the citizens who depend on it. The authorities must address the issues of driver absences and reduced bus services to ensure the smooth running of the People’s Bus Service and other public transportation services in the city.
