babar-azam-return-as-captain-ahead-of-t20-world-cup

Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam is likely to take charge once again as the captain amidst the new winds of change in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) with the appointment of Mohsin Naqvi as its new chairman.

With Mohsin Naqvi at the helm, cricket enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating significant shifts within the cricketing landscape. However, social media platforms are abuzz with the potential comeback of Babar Azam as the skipper of the Men in Green.

Insider reports suggest that Mohsin Naqvi leans towards reinstating Babar Azam as the captain of the national team.

It is rumoured that upon assuming his position at the PCB, Naqvi displayed limited interest when Wahab Riaz attempted to introduce Muhammad Hafeez to the newly elected chairman.

These development hints at big changes in team management as the post ICC World Cup 2023 management does not seem to be in the plans of the new chairman.

For the unversed, Babar Azam stepped down from Pakistan’s captaincy following the team’s dismal performance in the ICC World Cup 2023. Although Zaka Ashraf had urged Azam to continue leading the Test side, the player opted to step down from leadership roles across formats.

After Azam’s resignation, Shan Masood and Shaheen Afridi assumed the responsibility of leading the Test and T20I teams respectively. Meanwhile, Moohammad Hafeez replaced Mickey Arthur as the head of coaching staff.

However, the team succumbed to a 3-0 defeat in Test series in Australia, while lost the T20I series to New Zealand.
