Army Chief Asim Munir Promoted to Rank of Field Marshal

The federal cabinet on Tuesday approved the promotion of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal.

The federal cabinet, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, decided the change.

The Prime Minister also reportedly met President Asif Ali Zardari to inform him of the cabinet’s decision, showing full confidence and coordination.

Also, the cabinet, on a consensus decided to extend Air Chief Marshal’s services after the expiry of his term.

Meanwhile, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir thanked Allah Almighty for granting him this great distinction. In his message, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir dedicated the distinction to the nation, the armed forces, and especially to the civilian and military martyrs and veterans.

“I thank the President, Prime Minister, and Cabinet for their trust in me,” Field Marshal Munir proclaimed. He further added that the country placed this trust in him as a distinction, and said, “Millions of Asims are willing to sacrifice to maintain this trust.”

This is not a personal honour but a reward for the Pakistan Armed Forces and the nation as a whole,” the field marshal stated while showing appreciation to the nation for their unflinching support.
