Ashwin Calls Out Fake Viral Quote About India-Pakistan Asia Cup Match

Published on

In the ever-heated world of India-Pakistan cricket, controversy is never too far behind. But this time, it wasn’t a player’s performance or a team selection that caused a stir; it was a fake quote that falsely dragged Ravichandran Ashwin into the mix.

Fake News Sparks Firestorm

Soon after the Asia Cup 2025 schedule was announced, a post began circulating on social media featuring a provocative quote supposedly made by Ashwin.

The statement criticised the BCCI for allowing India to play Pakistan in the Asia Cup despite recent political tensions, especially when the World Championship of Legends (WCL) match between India and Pakistan was cancelled due to the same reasons.

The viral quote alleged that “small money is involved, so the World Championship of Legends got cancelled. But India is still playing against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, and BCCI hasn’t cancelled it. Because the amount of money decides the level of patriotism.”

Needless to say, the quote lit a fire on social media. Emotions ran high. Many believed the statement to be real, until Ashwin himself stepped in.

Ashwin Calls Out the Lie

Ravichandran Ashwin didn’t mince words. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he quote-tweeted the fake post with a blunt response: “Don’t associate me with this fake news. Shame on those who trigger all this.”

With that one line, the 38-year-old not only cleared the air but also reminded everyone of the dangers of believing everything on the internet.

India-Pakistan Rivalry, Still On

Ashwin’s denial comes at a time when fans on both sides of the border have been debating whether the high-profile India-Pakistan match should go ahead at all. The two teams are set to meet on September 14 in Dubai, with the tournament scheduled from September 9 to 28.

There were whispers in the Indian media that the Asia Cup might be scrapped due to political tensions. But with the full schedule now out, it’s clear that the show will go on.
