DHAKA – A devastating tragedy struck the Bangladeshi capital on Monday when a Bangladesh Air Force jet crashed into a school campus, killing 16 people and injuring over 100 others, many of them children.
According to military officials, the F-7 BGI fighter jet took off at 1:06 PM and crashed at approximately 1:30 PM during a routine training mission. The crash ignited a massive blaze inside the school premises, causing chaos and panic among students and staff.
Firefighters and Military Teams Launch Massive Rescue
Right after the crash, rescue operations kicked off without a moment’s delay. Heart-stopping footage from the scene captured flames and thick smoke wrapping around school buildings as frightened students rushed to find safety.
Firefighters, police, and military personnel joined forces to battle the blaze and help evacuate those injured. In addition, local health officials reported that over 50 individuals, including children, sustained serious burn injuries and are currently in critical condition.
Government Promises Full Investigation
In the wake of this heartbreaking tragedy, Muhammad Yunus, who leads Bangladesh’s interim government, shared his profound sadness and promised a comprehensive investigation.
“We will take all necessary steps to uncover the cause of this tragic incident and ensure that everyone affected receives the full support they need,” he stated in an official announcement. As of Monday morning, emergency teams are still on-site, and part of the school has been cordoned off. Classes have been put on hold until further notice.
