On Tuesday at 6:39 a.m., a 4.4-magnitude earthquake jolted Lahore and nearby areas of Punjab. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the earthquake was 25 kilometres southwest of Lahore. It struck at a depth of 14 kilometres.

Soon after the tremors, several regions across Punjab reported shaking. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed that areas like Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura, Mureed, and others felt the earthquake. As a result, many residents woke up feeling the early-morning vibrations.

Fortunately, no casualties occurred during the incident. In response, PDMA teams began inspecting buildings in all affected districts. So far, they have not found any major structural damage.

Meanwhile, the District Emergency Operation Centres across Punjab moved to high alert. Additionally, PDMAโ€™s Provincial Control Room started real-time monitoring of the situation. Authorities will remain alert for the next 24 hours to handle any potential aftershocks.

PDMA urged citizens to report damage by calling the 1129 helpline. They also advised the public to stay calm yet cautious in case further tremors occur.

Previously, on June 30, another earthquake of magnitude 3.9 struck 35 kilometres west of Dera Ghazi Khan in Punjab. It hit at 2:07 p.m., with a depth of seven kilometres. On the same day, Balochistan experienced a 4.8-magnitude earthquake at 11:11 a.m., located 40 kilometres southwest of Zhob at a depth of 20 kilometres.

Earlier, on Sunday, a 5.5-magnitude quake shook Musakhail, a remote district of Balochistan bordering Punjab. As a result, five people sustained injuries. Additionally, dozens of mud houses suffered damage in that region.

Just a day before that, low to moderate earthquakes rattled parts of Karachi and Pasni in Balochistan. However, officials reported no major damage or loss from those tremors.

Overall, Pakistan remains highly prone to earthquakes due to its position on a fault line. It lies at the boundary between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. Therefore, the country frequently experiences seismic activity throughout the year.
