If you’re the average Pakistani, the last two weeks must have been pretty eventful and exhausting. Most are still reeling from the meat overload following Eid al-Adha. On top of that, the federal government also announced the FY 2025/26 budget earlier this week. With so much on our plates, both literally and figuratively, it’s inevitable to forget Father’s Day.

Traditionally celebrated on the third Sunday of June, Father’s Day will be observed on June 15.

Two days doesn’t seem like enough time to honour our old men and the influence he has had on our lives. However, we do have a couple of suggestions that might make you the favourite child again, at least for a day.

A Simple Shalwar Kameez

The traditional Shalwar Kameez, when properly cleaned, ironed, and fitted, looks good on every Pakistani male. It is a safe choice to make your dad happy on the special occasion of Father’s Day.

If unsure about his size or preferences, take your mother along for a second opinion. In case everything fails, try keeping the sales receipt safe so that the shalwar kameez can be exchanged.

Chocolate Cake Can Also Do the Trick

Your father would also appreciate a break from all the meat he has devoured in recent days. A simple chocolate fudge cake from the store usually does the trick, but you could make it more special by writing a catchy commemorate on the cake.

What’s even better is if you try to bake it yourself.

Something funny like “Happy Father’s Day, Baba. Sorry for the ‘Paisay chahiye’ texts,” or something heartwarming like “Happy Father’s Day to My Favourite Superhero,” is bound to grab your father’s attention and love.

A Special Desi Breakfast

While creativity and uniqueness are always appreciated, simple measures can also light up your old man on Father’s Day.

Before your father wakes up, you make him a nice desi breakfast on Sunday. Garam chai and Anda Paratha would begin his day on a memorable note. Follow the breakfast with a table conversation that reignites old memories.

Handmade Collages Never Go Wrong

A hand-made collage of your father’s best pictures and accomplishments with colourful emotional captions is a simple yet effective way of celebrating your life with your father.

If it’s beautiful enough, he may decide to hang the collage up on the wall in his bedroom or brag about it to his friends on social media.

Fathers are guardian angels, providers, and protectors of their children. They are a beacon of light in a tumultuous and ruthless world. Every day, including Father’s day, should be celebrated in honour of fatherhood. Thus, try to make this Sunday extra special for your Baba.
