Air India Plane With 242 Aboard Crashes Near Ahmedabad

On Thursday, an Air India plane carrying 242 passengers crashed close to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. “Air India confirms that flight AI171, from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in an accident today after takeoff,” the airline confirmed.

A Boeing 7878 aircraft was used to carry out the flight. It had 10 cabin crew members, two pilots, and 230 passengers. Though not disclosing the number of wounded, Air India stated the injured were being delivered to nearby hospitals.

According to Air India, the travellers included 169 Indians, 53 British, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian. The statement ignored the nationalities of the other 12.

According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), 242 people were on board along with 12 crew members.

Air India said it was completely cooperating with the officials. The airline also launched a hotline for passenger support: 1800 5691 444.

Gatwick Airport in London verified that the Air India flight that was involved in the accident was due to arrive later today. According to X, more changes will be made public.

According to flight tracking site Flightradar24, the plane’s signal vanished within a minute following departure. At local time 1:38 pm (1:18 pm PKT), the flight departed from Ahmedabad airport.
