International Steels Limited Powers Forward with 6.4 MW Solar Shift

A Landmark Move Toward Renewable Energy

International Steels Limited (ISL), Pakistan’s largest flat steel manufacturer, proudly announces the successful commissioning of its 6.4 megawatt (MW) solar power project—a pivotal milestone in ISL’s sustainability journey and a testament to its commitment to responsible industrial growth.

Launched in 2024 and completed within a year, the project now supplies clean, renewable energy to ISL’s state-of-the-art manufacturing complex and corporate offices.

With an estimated annual energy generation exceeding 8 million kilowatt-hours (kWh), this initiative significantly reduces ISL’s reliance on conventional power sources, bolstering both energy resilience and environmental stewardship.

“This project reflects our long-standing belief in sustainable progress,” said CEO ISL, Mr. Samir M. Chinoy. “It is embedded in our broader vision of integrating climate consciousness into our operations, while creating lasting value for our stakeholders, our industry, and our country.”

Energy Impact: Estimated Annual Renewable Energy Generation – 8 Million kWh

The project’s generation capacity equates to the annual electricity usage of over 3,000 average Pakistani households, enabling ISL to meet a considerable share of its operational energy requirements through renewable sources. This transition not only minimises fossil fuel consumption but also strengthens ISL’s ability to manage energy costs and mitigate power-related disruptions.

The Sustainability Impact: Clean Energy, Clear Commitment

By adopting solar energy, ISL will avoid thousands of metric tons of CO₂ emissions annually, advancing its environmental performance while aligning with Pakistan’s broader climate goals. The move also reduces exposure to fossil fuel market volatility, ensuring greater operational stability.

Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals

This milestone further reinforces ISL’s alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically:

  • Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy

Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy

  • Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure

  • Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

  • Goal 13: Climate Action

As Pakistan’s industrial landscape evolves, ISL remains at the forefront, demonstrating that economic viability and environmental responsibility can move together.

Leading with ESG Strategy and Innovation

The solar transition forms a core part of ISL’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy, underscoring its dedication to setting new standards in sustainable steel manufacturing. As ISL continues to supply quality flat steel across domestic and international markets, it also builds a foundation for a resilient, low-carbon future.

International Steels Limited is not only shaping steel, it is shaping progress.
