Pakistan’s military reported a major rise in tensions with India after Indian drones struck nine cities early Thursday. The Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) said the attacks hit both urban centres and strategic sites.
Pakistani forces detected and intercepted the drones. While they neutralised several, some drones struck targets before being stopped. The attacks caused injuries and damaged property in multiple areas.
The strikes hit cities like Karachi and Lahore, along with locations in Punjab and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Officials said nearly half the drones were Israeli-made Harop models, known for precise targeting. One drone hit Sindh, injuring several civilians.
Pakistan claimed it shot down 12 drones that entered its airspace without clearance. The DG ISPR called the attacks “naked aggression” and warned of strong retaliation.

These drone strikes came just a day after India launched missile attacks on May 7, under Operation Sindoor. India said the strikes targeted “terrorist infrastructure” in Bahawalpur and Muridke. However, Pakistan reported that the strikes also destroyed two mosques and a school. The attack killed 31 civilians and injured 46 others.
India described its operation as retaliation. It linked the action to a militant attack in Indian-administered Kashmir that killed 26 Hindu tourists. Indian officials blamed Pakistan-based militants. Pakistan denied any involvement.
The military actions have raised fears of a wider conflict between the nuclear-armed nations. Both sides have raised military readiness to the highest level.
In response, Pakistan cancelled all flights, increased border patrols, and activated hospital emergency plans.
The United Nations and other global organisations have urged both nations to show restraint. They have called for dialogue to prevent further escalation.
