André 3000 surprised everyone with his appearance at the 2025 Met Gala after 17 years. He showed up in a striking outfit — a baby grand piano strapped to his back. His look fit this year’s theme, “Tailored for You,” which highlights the museum’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” exhibit.
André collaborated with celebrity stylist Law Roach and Daniel Lee of Burberry to design the outfit. The final look was a custom Burberry x Benji Bixby jumpsuit. It paid tribute to his 2014 OutKast reunion outfit, blending creativity with sharp tailoring. He topped it off with a red cap and carried a black bag, adding his signature twist on dandy fashion.

In an interview with GQ, André shared his view on dandyism. He said, “My own understanding of dandyism is basically your own personal outburst in fashion, or your own exclamation point on fashion. You don’t have to try for it if it’s something that you are actually doing.”
The piano wasn’t just a bold accessory. It symbolised a bigger surprise — a new music release. On 5 May, the same day as the Met Gala, André dropped a new EP titled 7 Piano Sketches. It follows his earlier instrumental album New Blue Sun. The EP features seven solo piano tracks, all improvised. Each one opens with a voice note from André, continuing his move into experimental, non-rap music.
His Met Gala appearance wasn’t just about fashion; it marked an important point in his creative evolution. He’s moving from his role as OutKast’s frontman to a more focused instrumental artist. His return wasn’t just about making a style statement — it was about opening a new chapter in his music career.
