A pandemic and one bad news after the other can take a massive toll on the mental health of people. This time has been taxing on everybody in one way or another, and staying at home all day can get rough. This is the time for you to prioritize your mental health, and this is how you can do it.

1. Put Yourself First:

Treating yourself with kindness and respect can take you a long way. At this time, avoid self-criticism, you need a break. Take out time for your hobbies and favorite past-times, or broaden your horizons. All the small things matter, and it’s up to you to take out time for yourself.

2. Take Care of Your Body

Taking care of yourself physically can improve your mental health as well. Make it a point to eat healthy meals and drink plenty of water. Any form of exercise daily, regardless of the time, can help decrease depression and improve your mood. This has been proved by health studies too!

Moreover, do not compromise on your sleep. We know the lack of routine nowadays can mean irregular sleeping hours, but make sure to sleep for at least 7-8 hours.

3. Your Company Matters

Individuals with reliable and most importantly, healthy social and familial connections are generally more robust. On the other hand, those without a network mostly suffer from feelings of loneliness. You can’t meet anyone right now, but you can stay in touch via virtual means. Don’t underestimate the benefit of having a chat online!

4. Have Stress Management

Whether we accept it or not, stress is a part of life, and it can come from the smallest of hypothetical worries too. Practicing excellent coping skills can readily have a positive effect on your well-being. Try taking a nature walk, playing with your pet, or journal writing as a stress reducer.

5. Set Realistic Goals

Whenever you set a goal for yourself, make sure you start small and start realistically. Deciding what you want in the future is great, but running after realistic goals will inevitably burn you out and wear down your mental health. This way, you’ll enjoy a tremendous sense of accomplishment and self-worth as you progress toward your goal.

6. Don’t Be Monotonous

Routines can give us a sense of comfort and security, but following them without any break is not wise. Alter your jogging route, the time you indulge in a habit, or the time you connect with others. This will perk up your tedious schedule and make you feel like you’re not a robot, you’ve got agency over your day.
