• No criminal history

• Proof of tax and National Insurance payments

• No outstanding debts to the NHS or Home Office

• Meeting required English-language levels

People in lower categories may be able to reduce the ten-year requirement if they meet higher English standards.

Penalties Linked To Public Benefits

The new policy adds strict penalties for migrants who claim public benefits.

• Less than 12 months of benefits: 5 more years added to the residency requirement

• More than 12 months: 10 more years added

• Entering the UK illegally: 20-year penalty
