Babar Azam Takes Break To Focus on Mental Reset Ahead of PSL 11

For years, Babar Azam has carried the expectations of an entire cricketing nation on his shoulders. From record-breaking performances to captaincy responsibilities, the star batter has rarely stepped away from the spotlight. However, even the best players sometimes need a pause.

According to sources, Babar has decided to take a short break from the ongoing National T20 Cup after being named in the Lahore Whites squad. The decision reportedly came after discussions with close family members and friends, as the former Pakistan captain looks to recover mentally and rediscover his rhythm with the bat.

A Step Back to Move Forward

The break may be brief, but it appears to be an important one.

Sources suggest Babar wants to spend some time with his family while also working on the technical aspects of his batting. The aim is simple. Reset mentally and return to the field with renewed confidence.

In recent weeks, calls for Babar to step away temporarily had grown louder among fans and former cricketers. Many believed the constant scrutiny surrounding his form was taking a toll.

Now, the batter seems to be taking that advice seriously.

Training at the National Cricket Academy

While Babar is stepping away from competitive matches, he has not stopped working on his game.

The Pakistan star has been training at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, where he is focusing on improving his form and managing stress.

Interestingly, Babar has also been sharing training sessions with fellow cricketers Hasan Ali and Salman Mirza at the academy. The environment offers a more controlled setting where he can work quietly on his technique without the pressure of match day expectations.

All of this preparation is aimed at one major target.

Eyes on PSL 11 with Peshawar Zalmi

Babar’s immediate focus is the Pakistan Super League season 11, which is just around the corner.

He will once again lead Peshawar Zalmi as captain, a role that brings both responsibility and expectation. With the tournament starting in just a couple of weeks, the short break could help him arrive at the PSL mentally refreshed.

For a player who has been under constant scrutiny, even a brief reset can make a significant difference.

Recent Performances Under the Microscope

The decision to step away follows a challenging run of form across recent tournaments.

During his first stint in the Big Bash League for the Sydney Sixers, Babar managed 202 runs in 11 matches. His average of 22.44 and strike rate of 103.06 drew criticism, particularly from fans who felt his batting approach was too slow for the format.

One moment from the BBL even went viral. In a widely discussed incident, Steve Smith refused a single to Babar to keep the strike and maintain the scoring momentum.

Things did not improve much in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 either.

Babar scored 91 runs in six innings at an average of 22.75 and a strike rate of 112.34. In one match, he was not sent in to bat against Namibia, while in another, he was dropped from the playing XI against Sri Lanka.

For a batter of Babar’s stature, such numbers inevitably attract attention.

The Mental Side of Elite Sport

Beyond statistics, the conversation around Babar Azam has increasingly shifted towards the mental pressure athletes face.

One psychiatrist even addressed the situation on a social media platform X, arguing that stepping away is not just a choice but a necessity.

According to the expert, the constant pressure from poor form, criticism and public scrutiny can take a serious psychological toll on players. Giving them time and space, he suggested, is crucial for recovery and long-term performance.

In modern sport, mental health is no longer a hidden topic. Players across the world are beginning to speak openly about the emotional challenges that come with performing under relentless public attention.

A Break That Might Help

For now, Babar Azam’s short break may only last a couple of weeks. Yet sometimes that is all a player needs. A little distance from the noise, some quiet work on technique and time spent with family can help reset both mind and body.

With PSL 11 fast approaching, fans will hope that this pause helps Babar rediscover the form that once made him one of the most reliable batters in world cricket.

After all, cricket has seen many great players bounce back after difficult phases. And if history is any guide, Babar Azam still has plenty of runs left in him.
