Pakistan secured a major victory at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh. Arshad Nadeem won gold in the men’s javelin throw. Muhammad Yasir claimed silver, giving Pakistan a rare one-two finish.

Strong Comeback by Arshad Nadeem

Arshad arrived as the favourite in the seven-man final. His Olympic record of 92.97m and strong season form set him apart.

He took the lead early and crossed 80m on his second attempt. His best throw of the night was 83.05m, enough to retain his title. The distance was lower than his previous Games record of 88.55m.

However, the win marked an important comeback after a year of injury, surgery and recovery from it. Arshad said he was grateful to return to competitive fitness.

Muhammad Yasir Edges Past Nigeria for Silver

Yasir made his debut at the Games with confidence. His early throws stayed in the mid-70m range.

Nigeria’s Samuel Adams Kure briefly took second place with a throw of 76.01m. Yasir responded in the final round with 76.04m.

The narrow margin earned him silver and secured Pakistan’s clean sweep. His throw was close to his season best of 77.43m from the Asian Throwing Championships.

A Proud Moment for Pakistan

The medals raised Pakistan’s tally at the Games to four. Earlier, boxers Fatima Zahra and Qudrat Ullah won bronze medals.

A small but passionate crowd celebrated the javelin victory, waving flags and cheering both athletes.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi congratulated Arshad and Yasir. He said their achievement made the entire nation proud and highlighted their contribution to Pakistan’s sporting reputation.

Looking Ahead

Both athletes now shift focus to the upcoming international events in 2026. Arshad aims to build a stronger form after his recovery. Yasir hopes to break the 80m mark next season.

Their performance in Riyadh signals a promising year ahead for Pakistan’s athletics.
