Apple partners with Google as it plans to upgrade its Siri voice assistant with Google’s Gemini AI technology, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday.
The iPhone maker is close to finalising a $1 billion-a-year deal with Google to use its Gemini AI model. With 1.2 trillion parameters, Gemini is far more advanced than Apple’s current AI systems. The agreement will serve as a temporary measure while Apple continues to build its own large-scale AI tools.
Siri has struggled to match Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa in handling complex commands or integrating smoothly with third-party apps. By using Gemini, Apple aims to make Siri faster, smarter, and more conversational.
Both companies declined to comment on the reported deal. Bloomberg said the partnership is separate from earlier talks about adding Gemini directly into Siri as a chatbot. It will not bring Google Search into Apple’s operating systems.
Apple recently delayed major AI upgrades for Siri until 2026 without explaining the reason. Meanwhile, Google and Amazon have already introduced advanced AI features in their voice assistants.
To speed up progress, Apple reshuffled its AI leadership this year. Mike Rockwell now oversees Siri’s development after CEO Tim Cook reportedly lost confidence in former AI head John Giannandrea, who faced setbacks in product delivery.
