If there was ever a reminder that cricket never runs out of prodigies, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi just delivered it in style.
Only three days after turning 15, the teenage batter produced a jaw-dropping performance in the IPL, smashing a half-century off just 15 balls to guide Rajasthan Royals to a dominant win over Chennai Super Kings.
And the most remarkable part? He did it on a pitch where 127 had already proven to be a challenging total.
Powerplay Carnage Sets the Tone
From the very first over, Sooryavanshi made his intentions clear.
While most batters would take time to settle on a slightly sticky surface, the teenager went the other way. He attacked relentlessly, turning the power play into a one-sided contest.
By the end of the sixth over, he had raced to 52 off just 16 balls, including five sixes and four boundaries. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals cruised to 70 without loss, effectively sealing the game early.
Speaking after the match, Sooryavanshi explained the thinking behind the aggressive approach.
“The plan was to execute well in the power play,” he said. “In small targets, the game is decided early. So we went all-out, and it worked.”
Fearless Approach Backed By the Team
It is easy to forget that he is just 15. Yet, what stood out was not just the shot-making, but the clarity in his approach. He read the situation, trusted his instincts and, importantly, had the backing of the team management.
“They told me to stick to my natural game,” he revealed. “Just read the situation and back yourself.”
That trust clearly paid off. Even after being dropped on the very first ball by debutant Kartik Sharma, Sooryavanshi showed no signs of nerves. Instead, he responded with even greater intent, punishing anything loose.
Royals’ Bowlers Lay the Foundation
While the spotlight rightly belonged to the young batter, Rajasthan’s bowlers had already done the hard work.
They reduced Chennai Super Kings to 41 for 4 inside the powerplay, putting the innings under immediate pressure. Eventually, CSK were bowled out for 127 in 19.4 overs.
Nandre Burger led the charge with figures of 2 for 26 and was named Player of the Match. He was well supported by Jofra Archer and Ravindra Jadeja, who picked up two wickets each.
A Prodigy Already Rewriting Records
For those who followed last season, this is not entirely new.
Sooryavanshi had already made headlines in 2025 when he debuted as a 14-year-old. Back then, he smashed the second-fastest century in IPL history, reaching three figures in just 35 balls.
He finished that campaign with 252 runs at a staggering strike rate of over 200. However, this latest innings feels different. It was not just explosive, it was calculated and match-defining.
