Stephen Hawking, one of the most brilliant minds on Earth has passed away at 76. The renowned scientist was a brilliant British theoretical physicist.
At a very young age, he was diagnosed with ALS, but he managed to astound doctors and the world by surviving through it.
It left him wheel-chair bounded, but that did not stop his great mind from doing everything to the best of his abilities using only a couple of fingers.
Hawking was also a cosmologist, astronomer, mathematician and author of numerous books including the landmark “A Brief History of Time,” which has sold more than 10 million copies.
“I try to lead as normal a life as possible, and not think about my condition, or regret the things it prevents me from doing, which are not that many,” he wrote on his website.
“I have been lucky that my condition has progressed more slowly than is often the case. But it shows that one need not lose hope.”
Professor Stephen Hawking has thirteen honorary degrees. He was awarded CBE (1982), Companion of Honour (1989) and the Presidential Medal of Freedom (2009). He is the recipient of many awards, medals and prizes, most notably the Fundamental Physics prize (2013), Copley Medal (2006) and the Wolf Foundation prize (1988). He is a Fellow of the Royal Society and a member of the US National Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Sciences.
