Who Are the Owners of Sialkot Franchise in PSL?

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has officially welcomed its eighth team, and Sialkot is finally on the PSL map. As expected, the announcement created instant buzz, not just because of the city’s rich cricketing heritage, but also due to the record-breaking price paid for the franchise.

At the centre of it all is OZ Developers, a real estate consortium based in Australia, headed by CEO Hamza Majeed, a name many fans are now keen to know more about.

How the Sialkot Franchise Was Won?

The PSL teams’ auction turned out to be far more dramatic than anticipated. After Hyderabad was sold for PKR 1.75 billion to FKS Group, the PCB raised the base price for the second team to PKR 1.7 billion, a massive jump from the earlier starting figure.

That sharp increase immediately narrowed the field. While companies like Jazz and Inverex Group were considered strong contenders before the auction, neither placed a bid. As a result, the contest was largely between fintech firm i2c and OZ Developers.

OZ Developers, a real estate consortium, stayed composed and strategic. When i2c pushed the price upwards, OZ responded calmly before delivering the final blow with a PKR 1.85 billion bid. That single move made Sialkot the most expensive franchise in PSL history.

Sialkot is globally recognised for its deep connection with sports, especially cricket. From manufacturing world-class equipment to producing top-level players, the city has long deserved a presence in Pakistan’s biggest T20 league. Now, with a dedicated PSL franchise, Sialkot finally gets a platform that matches its legacy.

Who Is Hamza Majeed Chaudhry?

Hamza Majeed is the chairman of OZ Group and the driving force behind the successful bid. Those close to him often describe him as a genuine cricket lover rather than just a corporate investor. His interest in the game goes beyond boardrooms and balance sheets.

Over the years, Hamza Majeed has remained actively involved in cricket-related initiatives. Most notably, OZ Group has sponsored international events such as the World Championship of Legends in the United Kingdom, highlighting its commitment to the sport at a global level.

“God gave us the chance to be successful,” Hamza Majeed said after winning the auction.

“As an overseas Pakistani, it’s everyone’s dream to do something for Pakistan. Cricket runs in our blood. I’m looking forward to this PSL.

“Sialkot had its own airport, its own airline. Now it’s got its cricket team. The Sialkot sports industry will be elevated by our PSL team, and we’d love to win this title in PSL XI.”

With the 11th edition of the PSL scheduled from March 26 to May 3, anticipation around the new franchise is steadily building. Fans are eager to see how Sialkot will shape its squad, brand identity, and connection with supporters.
